Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has selected Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics to design and supply the nose weather radomes for its Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 executive jets
Ravenna, OH – October 12, 2009– Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has been awarded a contract by Embraer to supply Norton® radomes for the new Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 executive jets. The Legacy 500 is expected to enter into service in 2012; Saint-Gobain expects that radome deliveries will begin in 2011.
“Embraer knows from experience that Saint-Gobain is the leader in designing high-performance radomes for aviation,” says Dan Orwig, OEM District Sales Manager, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics. “The radomes for the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 will incorporate the proven Norton Armor™ radome technologies that provide the executive jet operator with the best weather radar performance along with an excellent service life.”
The nose radome provides a protective, transparent cover for the weather radar and antennas that are critical for flight safety. Says Orwig, “Saint-Gobain has been a supplier to Embraer for more than 30 years, and we have provided high performance radomes for both weather radar and the digital satellite radar (Satcom and DBS) systems used on its fleet. This extension of our partnership shows the confidence that Embraer has in the Norton® radome for its new fleet of mid-size executive aircraft.”
